When initially conceived, this plugin was intended to aid bloggers with diverse business relationships to include some form of financial disclosure at the bottom of posts, and in their RSS feeds.

Since that initial conception, it has evolved into an application that has a multitude of uses in a business context, and it might even prove useful for more traditional personal bloggers who might occasionally mention their employer or want a way to automatically link through to related content.

Potential Usage

  • Declaring a financial relationship
  • Copyright statement
  • Commercial email statements
  • Legal disclaimers especially for legal or medical advice
  • Links through to related content on your website
  • Related content on a 3rd party website
  • Advertising

Easy to Use Intuitive Interface

We have worked hard to create an interface that is intuitive to use. The design was heavily influenced by some of the ease of use presented in many Ajax based desktop aggregators such as Pageflakes.

Data is entered focussing on which keywords the data should match, and a Company that data should refer to.

Disclosure Policy Plugin - Entering Data

Both the Keywords and Company name can be included automatically within the output text.

[Keywords] is prioritised, such that if the first keyword is found, the other keywords are not used.
[Company] if this is used, it is automatically linked to the supplied URL. It should be noted that the URL can point to anywhere, such as your own review of the company, or it could be an affiliate URL.

Display can be purely determined by the content of a particular post and the keywords found within it relating to a particular company. It is also possible to have blocks of text display that are always shown, such as a legal disclaimer or copyright notice.

Ease of Use vs Flexibility

No formatting is provided by default. This was a difficult design decision, but it allows for total flexibility in the output. If you don’t enter any formatting, the output will just be various sentences in a paragraph, one following on to the next, just like this paragraph.

There are 2 stages of formatting available.

Formatting in the Options

This formatting is wrapped around all your entries.

It is very easy to just include a title for the disclosure statements, and to define them in an ordered or unordered list. You can also use a DIV or nested DIVs for more advanced formatting.

Formatting in the Content

Having decided on how you wish to format the display of your disclosure statements, and other messages, you can also include formatting for each piece of text to insert.

Again there is lots of flexibility here, and I am sure that creative types will find ways to express themselves.
Under options we established an unordered list, so in this case we are going to wrap each text element with list html tags.

As you can see above, the preview pane is capable of displaying basic formatting for a single element and also basic formatting based around your options settings.
